2.2 Distribution:

In Bangladesh: The species commonly occurs throughout the country under cultivation and also naturally.

Outside Bangladesh: India, Srilanka and Mayanmar.

Origin (native to where): Bangladesh-Chittagong

Cultivated: Medicinal/culinary uses: The plant is used in the treatment of Body pain, stomachache and as an anti bacterial agent.

Other Uses: Ripe fruit is edible. It is planted as an ornamental. The timber is used for making furniture and in construction work. [Uddin.S.N (2006)Traditional uses of Ethnomedicinal plants of chittagong hill tracts;p.701]

2.3. Plant Morphology:

Leaves & Leaflets: Ovate or elliptic-oblong 7-25x 5-10 c.m . corea ceous, shinning and glabrous above,pubescent beneath,acuminate, base obtuse, stipule, linear, early falling, lateral veins 8-10 pairs, prominent and arching; petiole 1-4 cm long.

Flowers: Flowers in dense terminal, globes, solitary, peduncled heads, small, scented, pestiferous, yellow or orange colored, United by confluent calyx-tube.

Fruits: Fruit a fleshy globose receptacle on which are inserted numerous closely packed few seeded capsule.

Seeds: Minute, angular, not winged. [Das.D.K and Alam.M.K,Trees of Bangladesh;p.41]

2.4. Traditional Use of Investigated Species:
The extract used to remove pain and stomachache.

Other uses: The timber of the tree used to make furniture and constructional work and also its used to decorate the house.


Medicinal Use: we have found that,the extract of leaves and bark is act as antibiotic. It showed an effective and broad spectrum inhibition zone against some specific species of bacteria.
